SID Banka is the successor of the Slovenian Export Company, d.d., Ljubljana, which was established on 27 October 1992 as a special private financial institution for export insurance and financing.
At the end of 2006, the company obtained a license from the Bank of Slovenia and was transformed into a bank specializing in export and development promotion. On 28 July 2008, the General Meeting of SID Banka adopted a decision on the transfer of shares of minority shareholders to the main shareholder (the Republic of Slovenia).
The decision to transfer the shares was entered in the register on 18.9.2008. This made the Republic of Slovenia the sole shareholder of SID Banka, which also fulfilled the condition for the application of the Act on the Slovenian Export and Development Bank (ZSIRB), which was adopted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia on 23 May 2008.
